Martin Baldwin-Edwards

Martin Baldwin-Edwards is the former Co-Director and co-founder of the Mediterranean Migration Observatory, Panteion University (1999-2014) and former Editor and Founding Editor of the journal South European Society & Politics. He is the author of over 100 articles, book chapters and edited books since 1989 – mostly focused on migration policy and employment. Of Welsh origin, he initially studied for a career in classical music, later returning to Manchester University to read economics and government, with a thesis (locally supervised by the University of Athens) on employment policies in Greece, 1981-87. He has lectured and conducted research in a number of UK universities, carried out field research in Greece, Italy and Spain, and was co-investigator and Greek project co-ordinator for the UK government funded EVI-MED project investigating the 2015-16 “migration crisis” in Greece and Italy. Since 1999, he has served as a consultant or advisor on migration issues in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Balkan regions for leading international and intergovernmental agencies (GFMD, ICMPD, OECD, ILO, UNDP, ECRE, GCIM) as well as the European Commission (DG Research, DG Home, EEAS, EACEA) and six European governments.
